Hello, my name is Randy. I'm 46, married, 2 daughters, oldest just started university this year. I live in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. I have just started playing GT5 in the last couple weeks and am hooked. I use just the regular controller. Would like a wheel but so expensive and not sure if wheel worthwhile if you don't use pedals as I can't (in a wheelchair with a form of muscular dystrophy). Are there regular racing times in this group?

Hi Racormier,
Welcome to the group, see you on track soon.
There is a lot you can do with a controller to make the driving easier if you cannot use the wheel. See some of the threads on this site as well as GT Planet.
My son Jake (osiriso) won the race two weeks ago using a controller, so it is not impossible to do. Let me know if you are interested in his setup for the controller.

Hi Randy Ejiff will be pleased...another Canadian A few of us have wheels, myself and Pete included, but as far as I'm aware we all have the ones that come with the pedals. I know you can buy just wheels, which would obviously be the best option for you, but have no idea how good or otherwise they are. Hopefully someone on here will have experience of those and can give you some advice.

I'd expect it's probably hard to regulate your throttle and brakes is both your hands are on a moving wheel. It doesn't really give a stable basis to accelerate from, I'd think.
Anyway, you can do just fine with a controller - as Mer1nza used to demonstrate before he got a wheel and became even faster than he already was...

hi randy. ive had a cheap wheel it would suit you as it has extra button on it soyou dont need pedals (just unplug from behind wheel) and it only had a 180 degree angle so no crossed hands either. ill find out what it was an ill send a personal message with specs and prices. ive still got it but im hopeless with the wheel, played car games with controller for over a decade, i forget to turn lol. if you go in casual races or free run lobbys chances are ill be lurking about somewhere probably driving an integra. hope to race you soon

Hello everyone! I'm Stefan and I'm from Austin, TX. I'll try to make this short: I'm a 26 year old Field Marketing Manager who's married to a beautiful 29 year old Executive Assistant and recent UT graduate. I enjoy sky diving, soccer, hiking, camping, mountaineering, travel, culture, art, architecture, and life in general. I went to college too at a few different schools, but when I started a company when I was 19, I said screw it. I've been an entrepreneur ever since. I owned a structural wiring company from 19-21, a clothing company from 21-23, and now own a marketing consulting and staffing agency, as well as am a co-founder of a new cell phone case company. I love my day job in marketing, as it helps finance things like cars, etc since self-employment sucks comes tax time (because of deductions lowering taxable income so low.) Once my wife and I BUY a house, I'll probably quit my day job to focus 100% on my businesses. I have a few part-time employs spread across the country...blah blah blah. I'm a HUGE car buff, I race in a pro-karting league, I'm in the long dingy quest for a cheap air-cooled Porsche, and I know a small amount about cars, auto history, and fabrication, as I used to build Japanese drag racers before I began managing the shop. I lived around the world before I was 10 and as an adult I've toured Japan on a 6-week business/pleasure trip and have begun traveling with my new wife as often as I can. I'm currently away from home (and my PS3...oh and wife) on a business trip to Philadelphia. I'll be home tomorrow night, then off again to Salt Lake City, Utah and Reno, Nevada on Friday until the 20th or so. I've owned a 330whp 2.4L all motor circuit racer and a 630whp 2.0L drag racer. My current ride is my corporate cruiser, aka '12 VW CC R-Line and my wife and I carpool, leaving her Honda in the garage in our home in Cedar Park. I noticed a couple of you are bike riders here too...I don't ride anymore, but I used to have a pair of SUPER clean '74 Honda CB Cafe Racers. One was a 360-Twin and the other a 550-I4. There was also an '09 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom in there too that was totaled when a tourist decided to hit me head-on. That was a bad day at work. I play GT5 pretty much every night, from the time my wife goes to read/sleep and 2am. Though she's been getting on me about that, so I have to keep it to weekends AFTER date nights, and only a couple nights a week during the week. I do work from home a couple days a week once in a while, so those days I usually blow through emails then jump on GT5 for a few laps of the ring and to enjoy the random banter at the Ring. That was longer than I thought, but it's enough to let you all know who I am, I guess. I'm really looking forward to driving, talking, and racing with you all. I hope you all use Mic's when playing, as it's just so much more fun when you do. Please feel free to send me a Friend Request, AMBLO2U with a short message saying CRAP. :-) Here's us: Cheers and thanks for having me! Stefan

I actually grew up basically at Road America in elkhart lake Wisconsin. Back in the 80's they still ran indy cars there so got pictures of Mario Andretti and Emerson Fittipaldi and the like from back in the day day. I think my mom has those pictures though. Hi Stefan I see you've managed to find your way around the forum. Not a bad way to spend a bit of time while you're away from home. I've sent you the FR's for the CRAP lounges, so you'll be up and running once you get back to your PS3. See you out there

Hope to see you around the track sometime soon but seeing as im backed up with real like things getting in the way of me racing lately and looks to be that way for a few more weeks or more i think it'll be awhile before that happens. Oh i see your from Austin and i must ask, are you going to the race next month? I really wanted to go but things didnt pan out. i'll be sure to make it to next year New Jersey race if it does happen.

Hello everyone, thanks "johnschoonsbeard" for the introduction. I enjoyed running with you earlier. As stated above, I am from the U.S. and am currently living in Germany. Also the father of newborn twins. I look forward to racing with you all soon. That is when my schedule will allow. I enjoy running in free run, mostly trying to "hot lap". But also the random short race. It's hard to commit to the any endurance races at the moment. Please feel free to add me, I will accept any FR's as I don't know who is currently active.

Hello All I recently did a test run with Plux and Knukk for an event over at GTplanet and decided I should join this here community I've heard so much about ;D My name's Kolin I'm 26, married and work in education. I've played GT since the first one and have played online in Forza communities as well, when I had a living xbox at least. I do have a DFGT wheel but I'm currently considering buying a wheel stand pro as I prefer playing in my front room on the bigger TV so it's just my DS3 controller for now (on AT too. Have yet to really dive into Manual, even after 10 years lol) I'm looking to both hone my skills and get to know some new people hence my arrival

Welcome Kolin. Look forward to seeing you online soon. As Knukk says, get racing tomorrow.
To see the latest threads/race discussions use the "New Topics" STAR icon underneath the main banner and then peruse the rest of the forum at your leisure.
All organised events are by nature casual. Don't be afraid to sign up to a series it doesn't matter if you can only make 1 race, just come online and race. Some races are long, some short, we try and offer a wide range of races/cars.

Welcome Kolin! Hope to race with you soon! We're trying to start up consistent weekly practices and races, so hopefully you'll have plenty of opportunities to have a good time and learn manual if you desire. I was an Automatic guy myself until GT5 and my DFGT swayed me over. Now i can't imagine going back. We should have 2 races tomorrow. one at 12:30GMT and the second at 23:30GMT in a Tuning Prohibited GT500 car. Check out the thread for the specs. Hope to see you there if you can swing it. and definitely use the "new topics" button at the top. it's the best way to keep up with various threads here.
